FAQ.

Do I need any experience?

No. Lawn bowls is a very simple game with just a few rules and anyone can pick it up in just a couple of minutes. A club member will always be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice.

I have never played before, what do I do?

  • Anyone can learn to play in a few minutes, all you have to do is try to get your bowl as close to the small white ‘jack’ as you can.
  • The trick is that the bowls have a ‘bias’ this means one side of the bowl is slightly larger and heavier than the other so the bowls travel in a shallow curve rather than just going straight like a ten pin bowling ball.
  • Just remember the small circle on each ball is on the ‘inside’ of the curve and aim to curve the bowl around to meet the jack!

Is coaching available?

  • Yes the club has a fully qualified Bowls England Coach
  • Free Coaching sessions are available on Tuesdays at 14:00* or at other times on enquiry

Do I need any special equipment?

  • No, all you need is included in the price of a session.
  • We only ask that you wear flat soled shoes protect the green – and your feet!

Is bowls suitable for anyone?

  • Yes. The only restriction is being able to hold and bowl a ‘wood’ (the official name for the bowls)  and these come in a wide variety of sizes to fit all hands.
  • There is a large selection for you to choose from at the club if you don’t have a set of your own; bowls hire is included in the price of a session.
